Bumps and bruises are the reality of an 82-game NBA grind. Let’s take a trip around the Association to see who’s banged up.
On the mend
After suffering an ankle injury last Wednesday, Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard has missed the last two games. While Houston hopes he can return later this week, this may be a chance to get newly reacquired forward Josh Smith up to speed.
Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic has been ruled out of Miami’s next two tilts with lingering soreness in his calf but could be in Friday’s lineup. Be ready to activate him.
Carmelo Anthony was removed from the New York Knicks loss on Saturday with soreness in his knee. Melo hopes to avoid missing any time.
Contrary to previous reports, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin is unlikely to return from his quad injury during the club’s ongoing road trip. They’re back at Staples Center on Jan. 29, so keep him reserved for the time being.
Heat forward Hassan Whiteside suffered a strained oblique Jan. 20 and is day-to-day while still experiencing some pain.
New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon underwent surgery for a fractured finger on his shooting hand. He’s out four to six weeks. Unless you have roster room to spare, cut Gordon. Forward Alonzo Gee has modest appeal in Gordon’s absence.
San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge was held out Friday due to back spasms. He’s expected to return Monday.

Charlotte Hornets swingman Nicolas Batum has missed six of the team’s 13 January games with a sore toe, including the last two. His return date is unknown, but don’t be too quick to cut bait on Batum.
The consecutive missed games count for Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors has reached 16 due to back spasms. He’s still worth holding on to in a reserve slot.
Phoenix Suns guard Brandon Knight is out indefinitely with a groin injury that has been dogging him for a while. Archie Goodwin could offer a nice short-term return.
Washington Wizards forward Otto Porter is expected back Monday after missing four games with a hip injury.
Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried is day-to-day with a groin injury. Keep an eye out for an update on its severity.
Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay has been scratched the last two games due to a heel injury. He’s questionable for Monday’s tilt with Charlotte.
