Penguin likens brawl with Tootoo to pillow fight

After his first NHL game in over a year, Pittsburgh Penguins winger Tom Sestito sure did know how to court a headline.

Let’s start at the beginning: Sestito was recalled by the Pens from their American Hockey League affiliate to suit up Sunday afternoon against the New Jersey Devils. During the game, one Devil in particular – infamous aggressor Jordin Tootoo – drew his ire after both fellas were throwing their bodies around at the opposition early in the first period.

So, of course, Sestito eventually challenged Tootoo to a duel. And in the gentleman’s sport of hockey, when both parties agree they’re going to fight, you wait for the guy to get his gloves off before you start punching him.

A puck then came to Sestito off the draw, and he decided to play it instead of immediately jumping into the fracas with Tootoo, at which point all hell broke loose. Tootoo ignored hockey’s rules of order and came right at Sestito.

Both guys got a two-minute penalty, with Tootoo getting an extra two for instigating the whole mess, and then Pittsburgh scored on the power play because why not?

Anyhoo, the real fun started after the game when Sestito compared the brawl to something you might see female co-eds engaging in.

“I think Tootoo took exception to the hit I just made. So, he switches sides before the faceoff and comes over to my side,” Sestito said, per the subscriber-only site DKonPittsbughsports.com. “I asked him if he wanted to go. He basically turned me down, then shoots the puck at me. Next thing I know, I think I’m at a tri-delta sorority getting hit by pillows. The guy’s a joke.”

Meanwhile, Tootoo took a swipe at Sestito’s intelligence because, sure.

And there you have it. Two grown men settling their differences like adults.
